What I did for them

The Challenge

The Province of Luxembourg’s Sesam GR program needed an engaging promotional video to encourage young people in the Belgian Luxembourg region to learn German. The challenge was to transform language learning from an academic obligation into an exciting cultural adventure, while highlighting the practical advantages of German proficiency in a border region with significant economic ties to Germany, Austria, and Switzerland. The video needed to inspire youth to participate in Sesam GR’s creative language workshops, including « Excel langues, » « Paroles de jeunes » (audiovisual), and « Technobot » (robotics).

The Solution

I created a 1 minute 45 second motion design journey titled « Alors on Deutsche? » (a playful French-German wordplay on the popular song « Alors on danse »). The animation transforms language learning into a vibrant visual adventure through the metaphor of a train journey across German-speaking regions and cultures. Viewers experience the narrative from inside a train compartment, with the window framing each new cultural landscape and destination.

Using a dynamic, illustrative style with distinct color palettes for each destination—from the lush greens of the Black Forest to the romantic pastels of the Baltic Sea, the vibrant blues of Berlin’s nightlife, and diverse hues representing global German-speaking communities—the video creates an emotionally engaging narrative that speaks directly to young people’s desire for adventure, freedom, and opportunity.

Visual Narrative

The animation opens with the playful hook « Alors on Deutsche? » before launching viewers on a visual train journey across iconic German-speaking landscapes. The train window frame creates an immersive, cinematic viewing experience, positioning language learning as a journey of discovery that literally takes you places.

Key visual sequences include illustrated explorations of Bavaria’s fairytale castles with hot air balloons floating by, the Baltic coastline with its romantic lighthouse, Berlin’s legendary nightlife captured through the iconic TV tower silhouette beneath a starlit sky, and scenes showing German-speaking communities stretching from Europe to Latin America. A character with flowers waiting at a modern German train station emphasizes the human connections and cross-border mobility that language skills enable.

The train journey metaphor powerfully communicates that learning German opens doors to travel, career opportunities across borders, and cultural exploration. Smooth transitions between window views maintain the sense of movement and discovery throughout.

Results & Impact

The campaign video successfully engaged young audiences in the Luxembourg province, driving participation in Sesam GR’s language programs. By reframing German learning as an exciting journey rather than just academic study—a journey that offers adventure, culture, career opportunities, and meaningful human connections—the video contributed to increased enrollment in the program’s creative workshops and strengthened cross-border cultural ties in the Greater Region.
